“I grew up in a wild, remote corner of England. Much of my childhood was spent climbing trees, roaming across windswept hills and eagerly asking “Why?” – habits that I’ve never lost. I am fascinated by the traces we leave on the earth... and the traces the earth leaves on us.” 

 

 

Beck Marshall is a photographic artist whose work explores the natural world, our connection to the land and what it means to be alive. Raised and home-educated on Bodmin Moor (UK), she took a degree in geography (University of Nottingham), drawn to landscapes both real and imagined. After working in communications for international development agencies (Europe; Asia), where image-making became integral to her role, she briefly studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art (London) and devoted herself to photography in 2006.

“Every rock, every being, every place is entirely unique. Yet we are made of the same tiny particles, in constant motion. Often using film and a large-format wooden camera, I find the tactile process of making images deepens my sense of the pulse of vitality connecting us all.”

Now based in southern France, her photographs have been exhibited at Galerie Huit Arles (solo show, Les Rencontres d’Arles, France 2022), Fotofestival Nuremberg (solo show, Germany 2021), ART The Hague (Netherlands 2023 & 2024), Postcards from Europe (group show, Cambridge University 2022) and British Journal of Photography’s OpenWalls Arles (2019), as well as featured in LensCulture Art Photography Awards. 

Alongside her art practice, her editorial photography is commissioned under the name Rebecca Marshall by international publications such as TIME, The New York Times, and GEO.
